After a busy last few weeks, both Dave and I are on the road, building our respective knowledge bases about our subject and helping spread our enthusiasm for a subject that seems to be increasingly becoming a part of people's consciousness (coppice that is)

In the midst of a 5 day permaculture intensive and an introductory greenwood ladderback chairmaking course (along with guest teaching stints at Permaculture Design Courses in MA and NYC), I've been working to finalize the details for my trip to Europe. And now I can happily and almost unbelievably announce that I'm currently immersed in it. (As I write this I'm halfway across the Atlantic at 30,000'). While I'm traveling, I'll be working to post more regular updates, as I have an actively ambitious schedule that should help to dramatically deepen the breadth of our experience and understanding of ancient and modern coppice systems throughout the European continent.

After 8 or so days in the UK, I head to France, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece. It will no doubt be a full 6 weeks! With Dave's help, I've been able to make contacts with researchers and practitioners actively involved in coppice management in each of these nations. I've been amazed with their willingness to accommodate me and share their cultural and managerial wealth with me.

Please recognize that your contribution to our kickstarter campaign is helping to directly support this trip (as it did my journey to northern California and Oregon). You all are directly contributing to us developing a more comprehensive, well-informed understanding of these systems and it will ultimately result in a resource that will be even further grounded in practical application in the real world.

Thanks to you all - I'm increasingly humbled and appreciative to handle this torch - the result of so much collective light and vision.
Stay tuned!
